Start Your Day Trip from Casablanca to Rabat
Your day begins with a comfortable early morning departure from Casablanca. As you travel north along Morocco’s Atlantic coast, you’ll be welcomed by the calm and refined atmosphere of Rabat—often overlooked compared to Marrakech or Fes but equally rich in heritage and beauty.
Stop 1: Explore the Ancient Chellah Necropolis
The first highlight of your Day Trip from Casablanca to Rabat is the Chellah. This ancient necropolis is one of Rabat’s most fascinating historical sites. Encircled by old fortress walls, the Chellah features a mix of Roman ruins and medieval Islamic structures.
Walk among broken Roman columns, admire Islamic minarets, and discover tranquil gardens where storks nest and flowers bloom. The serene setting makes Chellah an unforgettable place to begin your cultural journey.
Stop 2: Marvel at the Hassan Tower
Next, you’ll visit the iconic Hassan Tower, an unfinished minaret that dates back to the 12th century. Originally intended to be part of the world’s largest mosque, the project was halted, leaving the grand tower and rows of stone columns behind.
Standing at 44 meters tall, the Hassan Tower is a masterpiece of Almohad architecture, showcasing symmetrical patterns and finely carved stonework. This spot offers a powerful glimpse into Morocco’s architectural ambition and spiritual heritage.
Stop 3: Visit the Mausoleum of Mohammed V
Just across from the Hassan Tower is one of Morocco’s most revered monuments: the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. This elegant white-marble structure houses the tombs of King Mohammed V and his sons, King Hassan II and Prince Abdallah.
Admire the intricate Moroccan craftsmanship—from zellige mosaics to carved cedar ceilings. The atmosphere is both peaceful and grand, providing insight into Morocco’s royal legacy.
Stop 4: Discover the Oudaya Kasbah
No Day Trip from Casablanca to Rabat is complete without visiting the Oudaya Kasbah. Perched on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic, this fortified citadel is known for its narrow blue-and-white streets, charming courtyards, and vibrant gardens.
Stroll through the Andalusian Gardens, visit the kasbah’s small museum, and take in the views of the Bou Regreg River and the ocean. The Oudaya Kasbah feels like a peaceful village within the city and is perfect for capturing scenic photos.
