Itinerary

Upon arrival at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, our professional driver will be waiting for you at the exit, holding a sign with your name. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Casablanca for a relaxing start to your journey.

Begin your day with a visit to the iconic Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world. After exploring Casablanca, we will head to the capital city, Rabat. In Rabat, you will visit landmarks such as the Bab Challah, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Oudaya Kasbah. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch at a local restaurant before continuing your journey to the famous blue city of Chefchaouen. En route, you will pass through charming towns and enjoy scenic breaks. Upon arriving in Chefchaouen, take a stroll through the town’s distinctive blue-painted streets and sample local delicacies. Overnight stay at your hotel in Chefchaouen.

Enjoy a leisurely morning exploring the enchanting Chefchaouen, nestled in the Rif Mountains. The city’s distinct blue buildings and narrow streets make it a photographer’s paradise. Visit the Outa el Hammam Square, home to a 15th-century kasbah, and the famous octagonal minaret of the Great Mosque. After lunch, continue your journey to Fez, another cultural gem of Morocco.

Today, you’ll delve deep into Fez, Morocco’s spiritual and cultural heart. The old city, known as Fes el Bali, is one of the world’s most fascinating ancient cities. Wander through its narrow alleys, past traditional workshops, and bustling souks. Visit historic sites such as the Medersa el-Attarine, the vibrant tanneries, and the stunning Fondouk Nejjarine, a beautifully restored 18th-century inn. Take time to soak in the atmosphere of the city, where the ancient and modern blend seamlessly. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon for some relaxation.

Depart from Fez around 08:00 AM for a scenic one-hour drive west to Meknes, the imperial city of Morocco. As you travel across the expansive plains, you will pass vast vineyards known for producing some of Morocco’s finest wines, many of which are exported to France. Upon arrival, you’ll have up to three hours to explore Meknes, including its vibrant souks, historical sites, and local eateries for lunch.

Meknes, once the capital city during the reign of Moulay Ismail around 1700, is rich in history. Visit the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum and the Rouah Stables, which once housed over 12,000 horses. The majestic Place el-Hedim in the heart of the Medina is another must-see. The souks here are spacious and less crowded compared to Fez, offering a more relaxed and enjoyable shopping experience.

Meknes to Moulay Idriss: After lunch, we’ll journey 30 kilometers north to the sacred town of Moulay Idriss, perched on a hilltop. Known as one of the most important spiritual destinations in Morocco, Moulay Idriss is home to the tomb of Moulay Idriss I, a revered saint and a great-grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. While non-Muslim visitors have limited access to the shrine, the winding narrow streets offer spectacular views over the surrounding valley, with fantastic photo opportunities.

Moulay Idriss to Volubilis and Return to Fez: From Moulay Idriss, it’s a short 4-kilometer drive to Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for being home to some of the best-preserved Roman ruins in Morocco. The site is particularly famous for its stunning mosaic floors, and it provides breathtaking views of the Rif Mountains. A guided tour (20 MAD, paid locally) will offer you a detailed understanding of Volubilis’ fascinating history. After spending time exploring, we’ll leave Volubilis and head back to Fez, arriving around 6:30 PM.

Begin your adventure early with a southward journey toward Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. As you drive, cross the Col du Zad Pass at an elevation of 7,146 feet (2,178 meters) and pass through the beautiful cedar forests of the Middle Atlas Mountains, where you might spot the famous Barbary macaque monkeys.

Stop for lunch in Midelt, known as the “apple city,” nestled by the scenic Moulouya River. Continue your journey over the Tizi n’Talremt Pass and through the Ziz Valley, famous for its hidden oases and vast palm groves. Along the way, you’ll encounter traditional ksars (fortified houses), built to protect valuable commodities like gold, salt, and spices.

Arriving in Erfoud, known for its date festival and fossil mining, you’ll visit a local collective to learn about the fossilization process and meet local artisans. End your day at Erg Chebbi, a vast sea of sand dunes covering 13.5 square miles (35 km²), where you’ll enjoy a camel ride to your desert camp. Climb a nearby dune to catch a stunning Sahara sunset before a delicious dinner by the campfire.

Wake up early for an unforgettable sunrise over the Sahara Desert at Erg Chebbi. After watching the sunrise, enjoy a peaceful camel trek back to Merzouga for breakfast. The changing colors of the sand dunes at dawn are a photographer’s dream.

Continue your journey toward the Dades Valley. Optional stops include Rissani, home to the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Chref, and Arfoud, where you can visit a fossilized marble factory. Arriving in Todra Valley, enjoy lunch and take a half-hour walk to explore the famous Todra Gorges, the narrowest and highest gorges in Morocco. You’ll be guided through the stunning palm groves and the historic Jewish Quarter.

In the evening, drive through the Dades Valley, famous for its sand castles and the unique “monkey toes” rock formations. Overnight in a charming guesthouse overlooking the valley.

Travel along the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, stopping in Kela’a M’gouna to admire rose fields and visit a local rose collective, where you’ll learn how rose petals are turned into rose water and oil. Continue to Ouarzazate, known as the movie capital of North Africa, and take a studio tour to discover the filming locations of iconic movies like Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and Black Hawk Down.

Spend the afternoon exploring Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This ancient ksar (fortified village) was an important stop on the trans-Saharan trade route and dates back to the 11th century. After a guided tour, enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the kasbah and the stunning views. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, don’t miss the gates featured in the series. End the day with a tranquil dinner overlooking the valley.

Leave Aït Benhaddou behind and begin the ascent over the High Atlas Mountains, with a view of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak at 13,671 feet (4,167 meters). Stop in Taddert to visit an Argan Oil Cooperative, where you’ll learn about the process of making argan oil from the fruit of the argan tree and have the opportunity to try some products.

As you descend, the landscape shifts from rocky terrain to lush foothills and flat plains. Arriving in Marrakech, immerse yourself in the city’s vibrant atmosphere. In the evening, visit Jemaa el-Fna Square, a bustling hub of musicians, performers, snake charmers, and street food stalls. For a more relaxed experience, enjoy a cup of mint tea at one of the cafés surrounding the square, while watching the lively entertainment.

After breakfast at your hotel/riad, begin exploring Marrakech, known as “The Red City of Morocco.” You’ll visit the city’s most important historical and cultural sites, including:

  • Majorelle Gardens

  • Koutoubia Tower

  • Saadian Tombs

  • Bahia Palace

  • Jemaa el-Fna Square

After lunch at a restaurant near the square, wander through the souks, where you’ll find hundreds of handicrafts. In the afternoon, you will have some free time to explore more of the city on your own.

Marrakech is nicknamed “The Red City” for its iconic red sandstone walls and buildings. It has Berber roots and was a vital trading capital for the tribes of the Atlas Mountains. Explore the bustling Jemaa el-Fna Square, with the souks to the north, Koutoubia Mosque and Gardens to the west, and the kasbah area with the Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, and El Badi Palace to the south. The new city also features the Majorelle Gardens.

As you explore, immerse yourself in the vibrant labyrinth of souks, such as:

  • Souk el Attarin

  • Souk Chouari

  • Souk Smata

You can also visit the Souk of Tanneries and the dyers’ souk to see traditional methods of dyeing cloth and yarn. Don’t miss the Ben Youssef Madrasa, a 16th-century Koranic school, renowned for its ornate Moroccan Islamic architecture, including carved cedar ceilings, sculpted plaster, and zellij tiling.

After breakfast, head to Essaouira. Along the way, enjoy the picturesque view of goats climbing argan trees. You can stop to see the argan forest and visit an argan oil cooperative if you wish.

Essaouira, a coastal town, offers a perfect opportunity to relax on its sandy beach. The town’s Medina blends history and culture with modern cafes and restaurants. Enjoy the cool coastal climate while strolling along the promenade or swimming in the safe waters.

Essaouira is a remarkable example of a late-18th-century fortified town, built according to contemporary European military architecture in a North African context. Spend the night at your hotel in Essaouira.

After breakfast, transfer to Casablanca Airport, depending on your flight details. This marks the end of your tour, but the itinerary can be modified as much as you like.
